The Champaign-Urbana Area Project and the South Side PTA will be hosting our second Community Conversations event, focused this month on Restorative Justice in Schools. Parents, teachers, administrators, youth advocates, and community members will have the opportunity to learn about the benefits of restorative practices in schools and to participate in small-group discussions on how these practices might enhance our local schools.

Come learn about how restorative justice can create safe school climates, improve learning, decrease bullying, reduce suspension and expulsion rates, and much more! Share your thoughts and concerns with fellow community members so we can work together to improve our community.

This discussion will be led by Sara Balgoyen, parent of a South Side student and advocate of restorative justice through both CUAP and the Illinois Balanced and Restorative Justice Project.

Refreshments will be served and free babysitting will be provided.

We at the Champaign-Urbana Area Project are proud to have assisted Champaign rresidents in voicing their concerns and opinions for the new police chief at our first Community Conversations event on December 5, 2011. At this open event, residents were invited to draft questions for possible inclusion in a Meet & Greet panel interview session with the four potential candidates. The majority of questions used at the Meet & Greet were derived from questions written at our Community Conversations event.

The Champaign-Urbana Area Project will be hosting our first Community Conversations event, entitled C.H.I.E.F.S.: Community Helping In the Efforts on Finding Solutions. This event will support community members interested in discussing community concerns surrounding the hiring of a new Champaign Police Chief. The conversation will be guided by community members and will focus on what is wanted and needed in a Police Chief in our community. The event will be an opportunity for the community to provide questions focused on the community concerns that may be used by the Search Committee at the public “Meet & Greet” with the final 4 candidates on December 8 sponsored by the NAACP.

Light refreshments will be served.

The Champaign County Probation and Court Services Department is offering a pre-employment test for those wishing to be considered for future employment with the Department as a Court Services Officer. This pre-employment test covers all positions in the Champaign County Probation and Court Services Department including detention, juvenile supervision, adult supervision, etc.

This position requires the applicant to have completed a four-year college degree, have a valid driver’s license and possess United States citizenship. Persons taking the test should bring a current resume and a copy of their college transcript.

The test will be given on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at the Urbana Civic Center, 108 Water, Urbana, Illinois.

The test will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. and will last approximately 2 hours.

Please use front (south) door. All application material will be available at the testing site.
