Mentoring Young Sisters (MYS) is a multicultural program targeting middle school girls and providing them with caring mentors in a group setting. The program structure lays the groundwork for increased achievement in all areas throughout their lives. Our program goals are as follows:
- To provide positive examples of womanhood and leadership to 7th grade girls
- To provide participants with caring mentors in a group setting
- To encourage parental attendance in schools by doing drop in visits or attending parent teacher conferences
- To decrease instances of juvenile delinquency, and absenteeism amongst program participants
- To raise the level of academic achievement and personal development of youth in the program
- To develop positive young women with increased ability in the areas of critical thinking, problem solving and public speaking
- To provide a basic understanding of the areas of juvenile crime, domestic violence, teen pregnancy, substance abuse, and truancy
